In RioBroker, a Broker is a logical construct that defines a specific archive environment which must include exactly one default archive agent on a BlackPearl system or Vail sphere. Each broker can also contain one or more other read-only agents from which objects can be retrieved.
Any number of brokers can be defined within the Spectra RioBroker application to allow multi-bucket support for archives.
Brokers can be created with either a Spectra BlackPearl or Spectra Vail system. Then, Agents are assigned to the broker. Agents are the landing zone for where data will be sent.
If your primary assets are stored on a BlackPearl system and must be migrated to and from a Media Asset Management system, the shared storage on the MAM could be an agent (alternativly, can be an endpoint). If a user had a directory of project files which needed to be recalled from the BlackPearl or sent to archive, they would, ‘Use the BlackPearl-Broker-1 to move this directory’. The command to use a particular broker to move a set of data will happen either from the RioBroker User Interface, a Command Line Interface, or through integrated applications.
Brokers are the core functionality of RioBroker and drive migrations to and from production storage systems. A single Broker can have one or many associated agents.
Brokers are used as logical constructs to assist data users in easily moving data to the proper storage tier or system.
Brokers are also used to migrate and manage legacy systems into modern storage workflows.
