So you are exploring how to migrate your data - whether to modernize your infrastructure, move to object storage, escape a locked-in middleware solution, or to reduce OPEX, Spectra has developed a system designed to make the process as easy as possible.
Let's be clear, though, migration is hard, it is never as seamless as you wish it would be, and if you have been using your MAM/archive system for a long time, you likely have a lot of end-user created things you will have to sort through.
We think of migration as a partnership - Spectra has a lot of technology to apply, and you will have to materially participate in quality review and guiding the overall process.
The actual process has been refined over time to give the best benefit to the customer. We always start with a day of architectural investigation where the SA dives in to what you have now, what you are trying to accomplish, and working through the options of how to get there. Our goal is to create an initial estimate - at this stage it is really a guesstimate, but one based on a lot of experience. From that we will provide a contract for the migration and ask for a commitment from you in the form of a PO that includes any hardware, software, and our estimated Professional Services quote.
It is VERY IMPORTANT that everyone understands that Spectra provides migration tools and services on a best effort basis - as we said above, migration is hard and almost always presents unforeseen issues that we have to overcome together. Therefore we do not provide fixed bids, guaranteed timelines, or guaranteed outcomes (yeah our lawyers made us say that) - we do commit to do everything possible to meet your goals within the time and cost budget you have.
Phase 2 always includes what we call a Pilot - we set up all the hardware and software that will be used, we set up the migration systems and do some test migrations. Once we complete this stage, we will have a much better idea how well and how fast the migration will go. It is at this stage that Spectra will provide a second, more detailed Statement of Work (See Exhibit 1b in the sample contract linked above)
Depending on what level of support is desired, Spectra provides monitoring and management services during migration as well as post migration system conversion to production.
